Brandon Smith is the owner of Allied Soil Health Services LLC, an independent consulting company located in the seacoast area of NH and ME. Dr. Smith works across the country to provide clients with expertise on using biochar as a synergistic tool to amplify other soil health management strategies. Prior to starting his business in 2022, he worked for 14 years at the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
He is best known for creating the Soil Carbon Amendment practice (336) that focuses on the application of biochar and compost to improve soil health and sequester carbon. Before he worked with the NRCS, Brandon was a research professor of organic crop production at the University of TN and a research technician at the University of NH. Brandon earned a B.S. and M.S. from the University of NH, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
